Shem to Joseph

'Then the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; and he overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. But Lot's wife behind him looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.'
Genesis 19:24-26.

11. Shem

Lived 600 years (1558 - 2158) 'When Shem was a hundred years old, he became the father of Arpachshad two years after the flood; and Shem lived after the birth of Arpachshad five hundred years, and had other sons and daughters.'
Genesis 11:10-11.

If we look at Genesis 5:32 we are told that Noah was five hundred years when he became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Which would take the birth of Shem to be 1556, taking Noah to be born in 1056, and if Shem was fathered Arpachshad when he was one hundred years old, this would really add up to the birth of Arpachshad being in 1656. So in order to make the figures match the fact that Arpachshad was born two years after the flood it is necessary to accept that either Noah was five hundred and two years old when he fathered Shem or that Shem was one hundred and two when he fathered Arpachshad.

Another possibility of course is that the flood didn't happen in the six hundredth year of Noah's life but in his five hundredth and ninety-eighth year which would date the flood to 1654. The latter possibility seems least desirable because that would involve moving a major event backwards by two years. However since I have found a quote from the Book of Jasher Ch5 v16-18 that says that Noah was 502 years old when he became the father of Shem I will take this age to work out the chronology for the timeline.

Flood date: 1556 Biblical Years
Age: 100 years plus 500 years = 600 years
Chronology: 1558 years plus 100 years = 1658 years

12. Arpachshad

Lived 438 years (1658 - 2096) 'When Arpachshad had lived thirty-five years, he became the father of Shelah; and Arpachshad lived after the birth of Shelah four hundred and three years, and had other sons and daughters.'
Genesis 11:12-13.

Flood date: 1556 Biblical Years
Age: 35 years plus 403 years = 438 years
Chronology: 1658 years plus 35 years = 1693 years

13. Shelah

Lived 433 years (1693 - 2126) 'When Shelah had lived thirty years, he became the father of Eber; and Shelah lived after the birth of Eber four hundred and three years, and had other sons and daughters.'
Genesis 11:14-15.

Age: 30 years plus 403 years = 433 years
Chronology: 1693 years plus 30 years = 1723 years

14. Eber

Lived 464 years (1723 - 2187) 'When Eber had lived thirty-four years, he became the father of Peleg; and Eber lived after the birth of Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and had other sons and daughters.'
Genesis 11:16-17.

Age: 34 years plus 430 years = 464 years
Chronology: 1723 years plus 34 years = 1757 years

15. Peleg

Lived 239 years (1757 - 1996) 'When Peleg had lived thirty years, he became the father of Reu: and Peleg lived after the birth of Reu two hundred and nine years, and had other sons and daughters.'
Genesis 11:18-19.

Age: 30 years plus 209 years = 239 years
Chronology: 1757 years plus 30 years = 1787 years

16. Reu

Lived 239 years (1787 - 2026) 'When Reu had lived thirty-two years he became the father of Serug; and Reu lived after the birth after Serug two hundred and seven years, and had other sons and daughters.'
Genesis 11:20-21.

Age: 32 years plus 207 years = 239 years
Chronology: 1787 years plus 32 years = 1819 years

17. Serug

Lived 230 years (1819 - 2049) 'When Serug had lived thirty years, he became the father of Nahor; and Serug lived after the birth of Nahor two hundred years, and had other sons and daughters.'
Genesis 12:22-23.

Age: 30 years plus 200 years = 230 years
Chronology: 1819 years plus 30 years = 1849 years

18. Nahor

Lived 148 years (1849 - 1997) 'When Nahor had lived twenty-nine years, he became the father of Terah; and Nahor lived after the birth of Terah a hundred and nineteen years, and had other sons and daughters.'
Genesis 12:24-25.

Age: 29 years plus 119 years = 148 years
Chronology: 1849 years plus 29 years = 1878 years

19. Terah

Lived 205 years (1878 - 2083) 'The days of Terah were two hundred and five years; and Terah died in Haran.'

Genesis 12:26.

'Terah took Abram his son.....and they went forth together from Ur of the Chaldeans to go into the land of Canaan but when they came to Haran, they settled there.'
Genesis 11:31.

Age: 70 years plus 135 years = 205 years
Chronology: 1878 years plus 70 years = 1948 years

20. Abram (Abraham)

Lived 175 years (1948 - 2123) 'These are the days of the years of Abraham's life, a hundred and seventy-five years.'
Genesis 25:7.

'Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.'
Genesis 21:5.

'"No longer shall your name be Abram but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you father of a multitude of nations."'
Genesis 17:5.

'The two angels came to Sodom in the evening; and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom.'
Genesis 19:1.

Chronology: 1948 years plus 100 years = 2048 years

21. Isaac

Lived 180 years (2048 - 2228) 'Now the days of Isaac were a hundred and eighty years.'
Genesis 35:28.

'And Isaac was sixty years old when she [Rebekah, Isaac's wife] bore them [Esau and Jacob]'
Genesis 25:26.

'Then Abraham put forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son. But an angel of the Lord called him from heaven, and said, "Abraham, Abraham....Do not lay your hand on the lad or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God"'
Genesis 22:10-12.

Chronology: 2048 years plus 60 years = 2108 years

22. Jacob

Lived 147 years (2108 - 2255) 'And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years; so the days of Jacob, the years of his life, were a hundred and forty-seven years.'
Genesis 47:28.

'"Your name shall no more be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed."'
Genesis 32:28.

Joseph was thirty years old when he went to work for pharaoh (Genesis 41:46). There were then 7 years of plenty (Genesis 41:53) so Joseph would be 37 years old and after two years of famine (Genesis 45:6) he would be 39. At this time Jacob arrives in Egypt at the age of 130 years old (Genesis 47:9). Hence Jacob must have been 91 years old when he became the father of Joseph (130 - 39 = 91).

Israel's Entry into Egypt: 147 years minus 17 years = 130 years
Chronology: 2108 years plus 130 years = 2238 years
Age: 91 years plus 56 years = 147 years
Chronology: 2108 years plus 91 years = 2199 years

23. Joseph

Lived 110 years (2199 - 2309). 'So Joseph died, being a hundred and ten years old; and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.'
Genesis 50:26.

'Pharaoh said to Joseph "I am Pharaoh, and without your consent no man shall lift up hand or foot in all the land of Egypt." And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaph'enath-pane'ah; and he gave him in marriage As'enath, the daughter of Potiphera a priest of On'
Genesis 41:44-45.

'Thus Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen'
Genesis 47:27.

Chronology: 2199 years plus 110 years = 2309 years
