Yao
Reigned 100 years (2357 BC - 2257 BC). He was coregent with Shun for the last thirty years of his reign.
'See the floods assail the heavens....In their vastness they embrace the hills and overtop great heights, threatening the heavens with their floods. The lower people groan and murmur. Is there a capable man to whom I can assign the correction of this calamity?'

'After twenty-eight years the sovereign Yao died. The people mourned for him as for a parent for three years....One the first day of the first month of the next year, Shun went to the temple of the Accomplished Ancestor.'

Shun
Reigned 50 years (2255 BC - 2205 BC). He was coregent with Yao thirty years which is not included in his fifty years.
'He set in accord their seasons and months and regulated the days. He made uniform the standard tubes, the measures of length and of capacity, and the steelyards [something for weighing].'

'He went to the temple of the Accomplished Ancestor, and sacrificed a bull.'

'Shun divided the land in to twelve provinces, raising altars upon twelve hills in them. He also deepened the rivers.'

'The sovereign said, "Ch'i, the black haired people are still suffering from famine."'

'In the thirtieth year of his age, Shun was called to employment. Thirty years he was on the throne with Yao. Fifty years afterwards he went on high and died.'
