References and Links
I am hoping to place some of the references to material that I have used or come across (and maybe not used) that I think you may find interesting. Where possible I will try and explain what I think of the reference and why I think it is worth noting. I will also create a list of other web sites that may have some relation, even if somewhat remote, to the subject matter of 'The Nature of the Gods' website. If there are any other sources such as books, films or websites etc that you think you might like to be listed here please email me with suggestions.
If you feel that you would like this site to be linked to your website, personal or otherwise, and would like to exchange links then please email me and let me know. Any graphics for the link can be sent as an attachment.
References: Books and Websites
"Worlds in Collision" by Immanuel Velikovsky
This was my first contact with ideas about global catastrophes and I still believe that the book is well worth reading. It was first published in the 1950s but there has been a new edition printed in 2009.
The Holy Bible Revised Standard Version
This edition of the bible is the main one that I used. Interestingly this edition has reference to Athaliah as Queen of Israel and she appears to be the Queen of Judah. The chronology here is also a bit confused.
Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, Michigan
The Bible New International Version (NIV)
This is a second bible that I referred to on occasion and it has a different modern style of language from the RSV edition above.
Hodder and Stoughton 1997 ISBN 0-340-61256-8
"The Mysterious Numbers of the Hebrew Kings" by Edwin R. Thiele
This contains some useful information on the dating of the kings of Israel and Judah and explains some of the possible reasons for some of the inconsistencies in the reigns by way of ascension and non-ascension years. There is also the use of co-regencies which I am still uncertain about but I will need to look at more carefully.
Kregal Publications 1983
ISBN 0-8254-3825-x
"Shu Ching" by Clae Waltham originally written by James Legge
I did originally have the James Legge edition which I preferred but I can't seem to find that anywhere these days but this edition by Clae Waltham is still a really useful book and have taken some of the dates of the Emperors at the back of the book as literal which for many people will be totally the wrong thing to do.
