Progress Weblog

13th March 2011 3rd October 2010 10th March 2010 2nd December 2009 2nd November 2009 20th October 2009 30th July 2009 12th January 2009 2nd December 2008 2nd November 2008 28th October 2008 11th August 2008 16th July 2008

I'm trying to keep anyone interested informed about the progress so far. I will have to warn you in advance though that due to the way my life is structured there are various other things that I have to do in life other than this site, so there maybe times when the progress does seem to be slowing down, so it may be that the work comes in spurts and drips (and dry patches). Such is the nature of life that one can't always spend as much time on one's personal projects as one would like.

Current and Previous Entries

I have changed the date at which Noah became the father of Shem due to reading some of the Book of Jasher. His age at this time has been changed from 500 to 502 years old. There are a few more interesting dates in this book and I think I will try and incorporate some of the data into my chronology as there does seem to be more details given about major events.

I am also thinking of getting rid of this weblog page when I get the forum up and running which should be some time after Easter of this year because I can probably write any developments on that.

I have just made a few changes to the site. I've put a search box on which hopefully will work, although I know on IE5 or IE6 for some reason the box seems not to be displayed properly, and I have no idea why but since on all later versions it seems to be okay I have decided to leave it has it is.

I have also taken off the Greek Myths and replaced this with an Events section. This is not because I will not be looking into Greek Myths but just that I have decided to use these Greek Myths in an indirect way to argue the existence of key catastrophic events. The Events sections, as you have no doubt guessed, will be where I will start to build up arguments for the existence of some of these events and to try to organise them in chronological order.

I may start building up the Egyptian Pharaoh and Mesopotamian sections and these will go hand in hand with the development of the Events section and the continual progress made on the Septuagint.

To be honest I have been trying to put some effort in to building a forum section with the facility for people to build up a personal profile online. This is taking some time as I am writing the code myself. So hopefully this will appear before too long. I plan on producing several different levels of membership: freebies; basic and premium. Each type of membership will have its own level of allowed interaction and have a different pricing level. Of course most people will opt for the freebie account which is okay and in fact it will be essential to have some volunteers to test the system. So if you are interested in volunteering in this project then I would be interested in hearing from you (email me your preferred email address) and I'll email you nearer the time to see if I can get the system up and running. It will not be as fancy as Facebook though so don't expect too much.

I have recently received a letter from Nathan explaining how to work out the age of Jacob when he fathered Joseph. The thinking is that Joseph was thirty years old when he went to work for pharaoh (Genesis 41:46). There were then 7 years of plenty (Genesis 41:53) so Joseph would be 37 years old and after two years of famine (Genesis 45:6) he would be 39. At this time Jacob arrives in Egypt at the age of 130 years old (Genesis 47:9). Hence Jacob must have been 91 years old when he became the father of Joseph (130 – 39 = 91).

Thanks Nathan.

I am still considering whether to alter some of the reigns of the kings of Israel and Judah (from that given in the bible) in order to take in to account the non-accession and accession regal time reckoning methods. This will have to be reflected in the chart as well as the details online.

There is going to be some more information of some of the literature and other sources that relate to the main concepts that are on this site as I am aware that this topic of global catastrophes in the past is becoming more widespread. As I become aware of more writers who have written about this I think it would be a good idea to put the details on one page. If you have any suggestions please let me know.

I have been looking at the Septuagint version of the Old Testament and have been adapting some of the web pages that I have already completed using the familiar bible as the source and changing the quotes and dating as they appear in the Septuagint text. There are some major differences in dating and I thought it would be interesting to look at these in more detail. I will create a new Septuagint section and will temporarily at least, if not permanently, remove the Babylonian section from the menus to make more room.

It will not be as hard to update the bible chart already completed and to display these Septuagint values and this will be in preparation for the production of yet another chart illustrating the dates of just the Kings of Israel and Judah.

I am straying a little bit here from the overall objective of this project but it is something I quite like the idea of doing, time permitting.

I have decided to include the dating of the kings of Israel and Judah as given by Edwin R. Thiele as a useful comparison and guide. Whereas I have integrated interregna into the timeline of the kings of Israel to remove some of the irregularities found there, Thiele has co-regencies. Far too many for my liking but I have felt that particularly with Kings like Omri where there is a very clear sign that either the length of his reign is wrong or that he was a co-regent at some stage. There must be a case for making changes to remove the large delta value (difference between the actual continuous dating and the comparative dating) that occurs after his reign.

I have a lot to think about here and will spend some time making some changes which will have to be put on the chart too. However I am not going to put all if any of Thiele's co-regencies into the data. I particularly like the second interregnum that I placed just prior to the reign of Hoshea as there was the invasion of Tiglath-pileser III King of Assyria which could justify such an interregnum at this time with Samaria being run by an unnamed Assyrian Governor.

A few more changes have been made to the site which I hope you like and hopefully these will work well on your browser. If there are any problems please let me know. There was a problem with the drop down menus on IE7 which I was totally unaware of until a friend of mine noticed it and was kind enough to point it out. This has since been corrected but I do rely on people noticing these problems and to tell me about them. Hopefully I will be able to correct any problems that occur.

I have had some feedback from some letters that I sent to some individuals (see letters). Some of the errors that I noticed in the reigns of the Kings of Judah and Israel may have to be looked at again and the dates revised. This is good preparation for the second biblical chart which looks in closer detail at the reign of the kings of Israel and Judah.

Another thing I have noticed when looking at other timelines is that there is discrepancy between my Biblical Years dates from the time of the exodus to the reign of Solomon since I used the date given in Exodus 12:40-41 of 430 years whereas people using the chronology given in Judges get a lesser figure. I need to think about this a bit more.

As you may have noticed I have added some drop down menus to my site which hopefully will make it easier to navigate around the site. I have also decided to do some more work on the biblical section, which means leaving the Chinese section for a while. I am trying to provide more links between the kings of Israel and the kings of Judah which might help more in the dating as I have still got concerns with the two interregna that I have placed in the timeline. This is somewhat unnecessary work for the project as a whole but is interesting to do nevertheless. I am also considering doing a chart which would just display the kings of Israel and Judah part of the timeline. I also took profiles section off.
I have made a few changes to the site and have also added a Profiles section. Probably not going to get too many profiles on here but thought I would put this section in for completeness.
I have made a bit of a start on the Chinese Emperors. I was going to work though Josephus' Antiquity of the Jews, to start another biblical chart as there are some interesting differences between the chronology in the bible and his biblical chronology. Mainly I think that his dating of the Exodus to being 215 years from when Jacob entered into Egypt may well be a better approximation to use than the 430 years given in the bible. However I think I will leave the Josephus chronology for a later date.
Just made a few changes to the site, which I hope works well on all browsers. Also reduced the price of the biblical chart again although I'm not too sure this is a good idea and might have to increase it back up to the former price. Still I'll see what happens.
I have made some changes to the price of the Chart available in the biblical section. I've found out that there is a cheaper way of getting charts printed. I'm trying to decide which chart I should start on next. I have not had many responses from people who have visited the site. So if you are reading this, try and remember to send some comment as to what you think about this site. I have been quite busy doing a bit more work on some other project that I have been working on so have not had much time to spend on here recently.
I have posted my site on line over the weekend and hopefully will be finishing my chart in the next week or so.
I have started to write my Weblog before I have actually got my site online, just to get in to the practise of writing the log. This is just to keep people, as well as myself, aware of my progress and the things that need to be sorted out. Hopefully I will be online before too long.
