Sem to Ioseph (2142 ~ 3704)

'And the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrha brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven. And he overthrew these cities, and all the country round about, and all that dwelt in the cities, and the plants springing out of the ground. And his wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.'
Genesis 19:24-26.


11. Sem

Lived 600 years (2142 - 2742) 'And these are the generations of Sem: and Sem was a hundred years old when he begot Arphaxad, the second year after the flood. And Sem lived, after he had begotten Arphaxad, five hundred years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.'
Genesis 11:10-11.

Flood date: 2242 Biblical Years
Age: 100 years plus 500 years = 600 years
Chronology: 2142 years plus 100 years = 2242 years and plus 2 years correction (see below and Arpachshad entry in Shem to Ioseph in the Biblical Section) = 2244 years


12. Arphaxad

Lived 535 years (2244* - 2096) 'And Arphaxad lived a hundred and thirty-five years, and begot Cainan. And Arphaxad lived after he had begotten Cainan, four hundred years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.'
Genesis 11:12-13.

*This date has been altered to ensure that Arphaxad was born two years after the flood. For further details see Arpachshad entry in Shem to Ioseph in the Biblical Section

Flood date: 2242 Biblical Years
Age: 135 years plus 400 years = 535 years
Chronology: 2244* years plus 135 years = 2379 years


13. Kainan

Lived 460 years (2379 - 2839) And Kainan lived a hundred and thirty years and begot Sala; and Kainan lived after he had begotten Sala, three hundred and thirty years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.
Genesis 11:13.

Kainan is missing from the biblical account and it is an interesting choice of name for reasons which I won't go into here.

Age: 130 years plus 330 years = 460 years
Chronology: 2379 years plus 130 years = 2509 years


14. Sala

Lived 460 years (2509 - 2969) 'And Sala lived an hundred and thirty years, and begot Heber. And Sala lived after he had begotten Heber, three hundred and thirty years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.'
Genesis 11:14-15.

Age: 130 years plus 330 years = 460 years
Chronology: 2509 years plus 130 years = 2639 years


15. Eber

Lived 404 years (2639 - 2773) 'And Eber lived an hundred and thirty-four years, and begot Phalek. And Eber lived after he had begotten Phalek two hundred and seventy years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.'
Genesis 11:16-17.

Age: 134 years plus 270 years = 404 years
Chronology: 2639 years plus 134 years = 2773 years


16. Phalek

Lived 339 years (2773 - 3112) 'And Phalek lived and hundred and thirty years, and begot Ragau. And Phalek lived after he had begotten Ragau, two hundred and nine years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.'
Genesis 11:18-19.

Age: 130 years plus 209 years = 339 years
Chronology: 2773 years plus 130 years = 2903 years


17. Ragau

Lived 339 years (2903 - 3242) 'And Ragau lived and hundred thirty and two years, and begot Seruch. And Ragau lived after he had begotten Seruch, two hundred and seven years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.'
Genesis 11:20-21.

Age: 132 years plus 207 years = 339 years
Chronology: 2903 years plus 132 years = 3035 years


18. Serouch

Lived 330 years (3035 - 3365) 'And Serouch lived a hundred and thirty years, and begot Nachor. And Serouch lived after he had begotten Nachor, two hundred years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.'
Genesis 11:22-23.

Age: 130 years plus 200 years = 330 years
Chronology: 3035 years plus 130 years = 3165 years


19. Nachor

Lived 304 years (3165 - 3469) 'And Nachor lived a hundred and seventy-nine years, and begot Thara. And Nachor lived after he had begotten Thara, a hundred and twenty-five years, and begot sons and daughters, and he died.'
Genesis 11:24-25.

Age: 179 years plus 125 years = 304 years
Chronology: 3165 years plus 179 years = 3344 years


20. Thara

Lived 205 years (3344 - 3549) 'And all the days of Thara in the land of Charrhan were two hundred and five years, and Thara died in Charrhan.'
Genesis 11:32.

'And Tharrha lived seventy years, and begot Abram, and Nachor, and Arrhan.'
Genesis 11:26.

'And Thara took Abram his son, and Lot the son Harran, the son of his son, and Sara his daughter-in-law, the wife of Abram his son, and led them forth out of the land of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Chanaan, and they came as far as Charran, and he dwelt there.'
Genesis 11:31.

Age: 70 years plus 135 years = 205 years
Chronology: 3344 years plus 70 years = 3414 years


21. Abram (Abraam)

Lived 175 years (3414 - 3589) 'And these were the years of the days of the life of Abraam as many as he lived, a hundred and seventy-five years.'
Genesis 25:7.

'And Abraam was a hundred years old when Isaac his son was born to him.'
Genesis 21:5.

'"And thy name shall no more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraam, for I have made thee a father of many nations."'
Genesis 17:5.

'And the two angels came to Sodom at evening. And Lot sat by the gate of Sodom, and Lot having seen them, rose up to meet them, and he worshipped with his face to the ground'
Genesis 19:1.

22. Isaak

Lived 180 years (3514 - 3694) 'And the days of Isaak which he lived were an hundred and eighty years.'
Genesis 35:28.

'And Isaak was sixty years old when she [Rebecca, Isaak's wife] bore them [Esau and Jacob]'
Genesis 25:26.

'And Abraam stretched forth his hand to take the knife to slay his son. And an angel of the Lord called him out of heaven, and said, "Abraam, Abraam." And he said, "Behold, I am here." And he said, "Lay not thine hand upon the child, neither do anything to him, for now I know that thou fearest God."'
Genesis 22:10-12.

Chronology: 3514 years plus 60 years = 3574 years


23. Iakob

Lived 147 years (3574 - 3721) 'And Iakob survived seventeen years in the land of Egypt; and Iakob's days of the years of his life were a hundred and forty-seven years.'
Genesis 47:28.

'And he said to him, "Thy name shall no longer be called Iakob, but Israel shall be thy name; for thou hast prevailed with God, and shalt be mighty with men."'
Genesis 32:28.

Israel's Entry into Egypt: 147 years minus 17 years = 130 years
Chronology: 3574 years plus 130 years = 3704 years


24. Ioseph

Lived 110 years . 'And Ioseph died, aged an hundred and ten years; and they prepared his corpse, and put him in a coffin in Egypt'
Genesis 50:26.

'And Pharao said to Ioseph, I am Pharao; without thee no one shall lift up his hand on all the land of Egypt. And Pharao called the name of Ioseph, Psonthomphanech; and he gave him Aseneth, the daughter of Petephres, priest of Heliopolis, to wife.'
Genesis 41:44-45.

'And Israel dwelt in Egypt, in the land of Gesem, and they gained an inheritance upon it; and they increased and multiplied very greatly.'
Genesis 47:27.
